When a tooth suffers from a large cavity or a severe dental fracture, it might be treatable with a root canal. This will restore sufficient structure to eventually anchor a dental crown. However, in some severe cases, the tooth might be too compromised for conventional treatment and needs to be extracted.

Once this is done Dr. Matthew Jelinek will provide you with a prescription for any necessary pain medication or antibiotics. This will help clear up any infection while allowing you to remain comfortable throughout the healing process.

When you’re ready, Dr. Matthew Jelinek can restore the tooth with a dental bridge. This is an artificial replica tooth fused into one solid piece of dental work. It has open dental crowns on each end that will eventually be anchored onto abutments formed out of the healthy core of the two closest teeth.

Dr. Matthew Jelinek will prepare the two abutments by using a drill to remove the tooth enamel layer from each of the neighboring teeth. This will leave behind two dentin pillars that protect the sensitive pulp, and nerve of the tooth.

Dr. Matthew Jelinek will create an impression of the area including the related teeth in your bite pattern. Dental lab technicians will use this information to create your dental bridge. Temporary crowns will then be secured over each abutment to protect it, while the dental lab does their work.

When your new dental bridge is ready a member of Dr. Matthew Jelinek’s staff will call you to schedule a second appointment. Dr. Matthew Jelinek will remove the temporary crowns and cement your dental bridge in place with a strong dental adhesive.
